Please join the Texas Fair Defense Project for our Second Annual Defender of Justice Luncheon. We’re excited to have James Forman Jr. as our keynote speaker. Mr. Forman, a professor at Yale Law School, will discuss his new book, Locking Up Our Own: Crime and Punishment in Black America, a New York Times Book Review Editors’ Choice and a Washington Post bestseller. Listen to him on NPR’s Fresh Air.
We will honor the Austin Justice Coalition, a Black-led group of activists that works to improve the quality of life for Black Austinites, who are historically and systematically impacted by gentrification, segregation, over-policing, and a dearth of educational and employment opportunities. We will also hear from a former client and advocate for criminal justice reform who will share her personal story. And one of our talented supporters, Lucy Wood, has generously donated high-quality prints of her beautiful painting in the image above. We will raffle a framed, signed print at the event, and we will also have the limited-edition posters for sale for $50.
